SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (Fimucité) begins its seventeenth edition this Friday with the largest program in its history, which will be dedicated to the world of comics and will include a film series, concerts at the Teatro Guimerá, at the Teatro Leal and in the Auditorium of the University of La Laguna, master classes and, as a closing ceremony, two symphonic concerts in the Tenerife Auditorium.

Directed by the composer and conductor Diego Navarro, for the second year in a row the program will start at Parque García Sanabria with a summer film cycle that will display a program of five films on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons: the film adaptations from comics ‘Dick Tracy’, ‘Spider-Man: A New Universe’ and ‘Rocketeer’; and two Indian produced action films, ‘Krack’ and ‘Action Jackson’. This free experience includes popcorn, water and hammocks until full capacity is reached.

At the same time, the Sala de Arte Los Lavaderos in the capital of Tenerife is offering the exhibition ‘Pacheco & Azpiri, in memory of two greats’, dedicated to two of the most prominent Spanish comic book authors, Carlos Pacheco and Alfonso Azpiri. The exhibition will remain open until July 23.

The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, pointed out at the presentation ceremony that Fimucité “is already a worldwide reference and is one of the events that generates the most cultural activity and which we plan to continue supporting”.

For his part, the Councilor for Culture, Santiago Díaz, highlighted the importance of holding part of the Festival in the city: “The great investment that cinema represents for Santa Cruz is essential, since the Festival is aligned with this objective, offering the whole world an image that allows this cinematographic success”.

The director of Fimucité, Diego Navarro, wanted to thank all the administrations for their involvement “for an edition that will be the largest in the history of a festival that is the oldest in Europe and a worldwide benchmark”.

On Saturday, July 1, at 8:00 p.m., the Fimucité 17 concert program will begin at the Teatro Guimerá by the Pop Culture Band, which celebrates its tenth anniversary with the show ‘Guardianes del Rock’. This proposal will make audiences of all ages vibrate through the interpretation of iconic melodies from comic book movies and superheroes, such as AC/DC’s ‘Shoot To Thrill’, Seal’s ‘Kiss From a Rose’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen and many others included in titles such as ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, ‘Suicide Squad’, ‘The Avengers’, ‘Thor’ or ‘Iron Man’.

Gonzalo de Araoz (guitars) is in front of the musicians of the Pop Culture Band: Nuria Herrero (percussion), Francis Díaz (guitar), David González (keyboards), Daniel Lukacs (bass), Siddharta Dorta (drums), Cristo Delgado (trombone), Elio Bignotte (trumpet) and Norberto Arteaga (sax). In addition, the soloists Patricio González, Zuleyma Medina, Adrián Lugo, Francesco Panico, Juan de Araoz, Carlos Ortega, Paula González and the internationally recognized Canarian singer Cristina Ramos as a guest star will participate with their voices.

‘Electronic Penderecki’ will feature on stage a chamber ensemble made up of solo musicians from the Sinfonietta Cracovia orchestra, which made its successful debut at Fimucité last year, along with renowned Polish soloists Piotr Lato, conducting clarinet, and Maciej Zimka, with the accordion.

Directed by Katarzyna Tomala Jedynak, this production will pay homage to the Polish composer and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki, who died in 2020 and is famous for his recognizable compositional style in his atonal works, some of which have been part of the soundtracks of classic films. horror films like ‘The Shining’ or ‘The Exorcist’.

The second part will be eminently dedicated to Angelo Badalamenti, whose career was marked by the creative tandem he formed with the great director David Lynch, which resulted in mythical scores such as ‘Twin Peaks’, ‘Blue Velvet’ or ‘Mulholland Drive’, among others. .

The tribute to Baladamenti, who died at the end of 2022, will continue on Saturday at the ‘Jazzdalamenti’ concert, a tour of the composer’s work with a Big Band-like musical treatment. The composer Joseph LoDuca, a close relative, close friend of the maestro and an accomplished jazz guitarist, has taken charge of the arrangements and will participate in this concert, performed by the Big Band of the Canary Islands, under the musical direction of the prestigious saxophonist Kike Perdomo. Esther Ovejero will also take part, who will sing some of the most popular songs created by Baladamenti for film and television.
