Tenerife’s coastthe largest island in the Canaries, is dotted with pools and natural pools that are a real treasure and that can be enjoyed throughout the year. Especially in the north of the island, the hand-in-hand work of volcanic activity and the Atlantic Ocean shaped a landscape with cavities that fill and empty with the tides and are a true paradise for connect to the fullest with salty nature without the large crowds of tourist areass.
The island of Tenerife is the one with greatest number of puddles on its coastline, some 182 and 259 vessels. Most accumulate in the area that goes from Tacoronte to Punta de Hidalgo and of these, 52 are built and 51 are of regional interest, according to the book Charcos de Marea de Canarias by the architect Alberto Luengo.
Among the best-known natural pools and puddles, those of Bajamar, Arenisco, La Laja, Cumplido and El Caletón stand out.

Natural Pools of El Caleton

Bajamar Natural Pools

El Arenisco and the nearby beach are the places where most of the families in the area gather on weekends.

In the Caleta de Interián is the Charco del Cumplido and it is called like that because of its Extended form. It has an access ramp next to the famous natural salt flats of La Caleta. Its deepest part does not exceed two meters. The Los Chochos pond is located next to the Charco de La Araña and It has a height of about two meters in its deepest part. It is suitable for families with children and is available for swimming throughout the year as long as the sea conditions are ideal. From the Los Chocos puddle you can see the cliffs of La Culata and Teide on clear days. Its name is due to the fact that in this place the peasants used to soak the lupins in salt water to remove the characteristic bitterness of this legume known in the islands by the name of chocho.

The main bathing area of San Juan de la Rambla, in the north of Tenerife, impresses when photographed. She appears almost by surprise at the end of one of the most populous streets of the pretty town of San Juan de la Rambla.

Wind Pool
El Charco del Viento is the busiest bathing area in La Guancha and one of the most famous pools with the best access in the north of Tenerife. Although sometimes the force of the Atlantic enters, this enclave of great beauty and contrast of colors allows you to bathe calmly in the different inlets, with areas with sand and others with rocks.
Access to Charco del Viento is easy through some stairs that have been reformed and which can be reached through a road that runs between banana farms.
