Women, socialists, and also, in two of the cases, as in Buenavista del Norte and El Tanque, they have achieved a political majority that many did not expect, as is the case of Eva García in the first municipality and Esther Morales, in the second .
The truth is that in the 2023-2027 mandate on the Isla Baja women will rule, since Carmen Luz Baso, mayoress of Los Silos, joins her, although in her case supported by United Sí Podemos (USP) with whom she has signed a government pact that will give stability to the City Council.
In Garachico, José Heriberto González (CC) has survived thanks to an agreement with the PSOE councilor, Yasmina Luis, who in turn is, since yesterday, the first deputy mayor.
In the four towns there were no surprises and what was expected was fulfilled despite the fact that the agreements were reached at the end of this week: Eva García returned to occupy the Mayor’s Chair after leaving it in 2019, when it was occupied by Antonio González Fortes ( Sí se puede), who has returned to the opposition with four councillors.
In El Tanque, Esther Morales stood for the first time in the elections and increased the absolute majority achieved by her predecessor, Román Martín, whom she succeeded in July 2021 after being charged and leaving Nueva Canarias without representation, which had two councillors.
In Los Silos, one woman replaces another, since Carmen Luz Baso, the candidate with the most votes, takes the baton left by Macarena Fuentes (CC), who in the term that is ending also had to reach a government agreement with the Popular Party (PP) to be able to govern. His first deputy mayor was Raquel González. Both now become part of the opposition.
From now on, the first deputy mayor will be the head of the USP list, Andrés Joel Rodríguez, although details of the pact signed or the areas of government have not yet been disclosed. Nor in Garachico, the municipality in which it has been most difficult to reach an agreement because the citizens did not grant an absolute majority to the candidacies that participated in them.
For this reason, both the CC and the PSOE understood that a governance pact of the City Council was necessary to give stability to the institution.
As in the rest of the municipalities of Tenerife, the four of the Isla Baja followed the corresponding steps for taking possession: formation of the Age Table; reading of the credentials of the ediles by the secretary and the subsequent confirmation that there were no impediments to assume the position; subsequent swearing or promise of the same and finally, the voting of the candidates that in the four cases was by show of hands since no group requested to do it secretly, an option that is contemplated in the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime (LOREG).
