The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office Santa Cruz of Tenerife ask for a penalty 15 years in prison for a man who sprayed another with gasoline in the Tejina neighborhood (The lagoon) after a discussion of traffic and caused severe burns on 22% of his body.
The summary, collected by Europa Press, points out that the events occurred on the afternoon of February 19 of last year when the man, in his 60s, went to the victim’s home to demand the insurance after a traffic accident and found no answer.
For this reason, half an hour later he returned to the building carrying a bottle of gasoline and sprayed the vehicle that was parked outside and set it on fire with a lighter to the point that he himself was affected.
When the victim left his house to reproach him for the action the defendant sprayed him with gasoline and set him on fire until the man was helped by the people who were inside the house and they transferred him to the Tejina health center.
As a result of the attack, the man suffered burns that posed a “serious life risk” and for which he took 93 days to heal, 58 of them under hospital admission, and suffered various aesthetic sequelae.
The injuries caused him “great pain,” says the prosecutionhence required mechanical ventilation and tracheostomy cannula holder.
The defendant is in communicated pretrial detention and without bail and according to the psychiatric forensic medical report, he has been diagnosed with depression and heroin dependence, although there is no causal link between his pathology and the facts, nor did he have annulled volitional or intellectual faculties nor depleted.
The vehicle affected by the attack was courtesy and belonged to a workshop and was not damaged.
The Prosecutor’s Office considers that the facts constitute a crime of attempted murder and also requests compensation of just over 116,000 euros for the days of hospitalization and aesthetic sequelae.
The trial is held next Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the fifth section of the Provincial Court.
