Valido will head the list of CC to Congress for the province of Tenerife

Cristina Valid will lead the candidacy of the Canary Islands Coalition (CC) to the Congress of Deputies for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In case of being chosen next July 23, Valido would leave the seat that corresponds to him in the Parliament of the Canary Islands vacant. The nationalist has the status of elected deputy in the regional Chamber after appearing as number 4 on the island list for Tenerife in recent local and regional elections. Coalition won six seats in the Tenerife constituency, so that If Valido packs his bags to continue his political career in the Cortes Generales, it will be number 7 on that list, José Alberto Díaz-Estébanez, who will occupy his seat in the Canary Islands hemicycle.

Apart from the appointment of Valido (actually it is an agreement-proposal of the executive and the island council of CC in Tenerife that must now pass the filter of the regional bodies of the party, which in any case is a mere formality ), The nationalist leadership on the island also chose its two candidates for the Senate: Jonathan Domínguez and Gladys de Leónwho will have as substitutes lot garcia and Diana Mora. It so happens that both Valido and Domínguez and De León are also elected councillors, with which, in principle, they would make their tasks in the Cortes compatible with their work in the municipalities. The former adviser to the Government of the Canary Islands led the CC candidacy for the City Council on 28M The rosary, where Coalition got two ediles. Domínguez did the same on the list of nationalists for the consistory of The lagoon, where he should act as leader of the opposition. And De León was number two on the plate for the City Council of Santa Cruz of Tenerife, where CC has already reached an agreement with the Popular Party so that José Manuel Bermúdez continues in the mayor’s office. In the case of Valido, his election on 23J to Congress would imply the transfer of his seat in the regional Parliament in favor of Díaz-Estébanez, but this does not have to happen with his act as councilor in El Rosario, since he would have the possibility of performing both positions. And the same Domínguez and De León in their respective municipalities. In fact, his own Díaz-Estébanez would have to make the plenary sessions in the Canary Islands Legislative compatible with the plenary sessions in the capital city council if he finally inherits Valido’s seat. Something that, on the other hand, is more than usual.

It should be remembered that the parties are in the position of readjusting the pieces of the puzzle for the surprising electoral advance of Pedro Sanchez. There is barely time to square the candidacies, Hence, Cristina Valido, for example, can go from elected deputy in the Canary Islands to elected deputy in Madrid in less than two months. He PSOE crash on 28M, which is the reason for the umpteenth turn of the screw by Sánchez in his attempt to stay in power, thus supposes a headache for the political forces, which face two pre-campaigns, two campaigns and two elections in just weeks, something unprecedented . The left-right polarization that the country is experiencing between the PSOE and Yolanda Diazon the one hand, and the PP and Vox, on the other, It also represents a threat to the nationalist parties, which may lose votes in the face of two such prominent options.. That is why the general secretary of CC, Fernando Clavijo, emphasized this Saturday that the Canary Islands “need representation” in Madrid. The idea, he deepened, is to establish alliances with as many Canarian obedience organizations as possible, including NC, to gather enough support so that the Islands have a voice in the Cortes.

Oramas Substitute

Valido aspires to be the substitute for Ana Oramas in the Congressional rostrum, who beyond philias and phobias has been the face of the Canary Islands in the chamber in the last 15 years, for better or worse according to each one. With the role of the island deputies of the PSOE and the PP always subordinated to the orders of Ferraz and Génova, Oramas knew how to earn his own space in the Parliament and in the particular ecosystem of national politics. Back in the Archipelago, the nationalist handed over the baton this Saturday to her co-religionist Valido de ella, whom she praised. “Cristina was my candidate, and she was my candidate since I made the decision to return to Canarian politics”, explained Oramas, who justified his opinion in the experience of Valido in the Cabildo de Tenerife, in the regional Parliament or in the regional government itself and also in his knowledge of the issues that he must address in Madrid in the case of having the confidence of the voters on 23J. Issues, added the former mayor of La Laguna, that Valido knows by heart, basically because he is the one who prepared the amendments and Oramas’ speeches in Congress on matters of such substance as housing, pensions, non-contributory pensions or income vital minimum. Not in vain, Valido’s public career has been attached to the field of social policies, an area in which she was a director in the Executive. She “she has been the most important person” for Oramas in the Lower House.

The idea in Coalición Canaria is that the alliances that they try to forge with other island obedience parties allow them to reach up to three seats in Congress, “not only two deputies for this province”, that of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Oramas pointed out, but “three deputies”, which would add one for the demarcation of Las Palmas. In that case, “We could be deciding the next Government of Spain”remarked the elected parliamentarian for the regional Chamber. “It is not decided between the right or the left, but whether the Canary Islands will continue to be in national politics,” she said.
