Among the events organized for the celebration of the Day of the Armed Forces in the Canary Islands, yesterday, the capital hosted, in the vicinity of Avenida Marítima de Santa Cruz, the act of lowering the flag, which was presided over by the chief general of the Canary Islands Command, Lieutenant General Julio Salom Herrera.
Before, at ten o’clock in the morning, the flag was hoisted, from which moment, and in the environment closest to the Cabildo, hosted the different activities with which this day was celebrated. An exhibition of military material, in which about 400 members of different Army units participated.
Those who got close during the morning were even able to enjoy paratroopers jumping from helicopters that were flying at a very low altitude.
In the act of lowering the flag, at seven o’clock in the afternoon, the Honors Unit with the Squad of Beaters, War Band No. 2 of the Canarias XVI Brigade, Music from the Canary Islands Command, a Battery of the Artillery Regiment of Campaign No. 93, a Company of the Tenerife Infantry Regiment No. 49 and a mixed Company made up of personnel from the 6th Maneuver Helicopter Battalion, Civil Guard and Military Emergency Unit.
During the lowering, a patrol of F-18 aircraft from the Canary Islands Air Command flew over the surroundings. An act that ended with a parade of the Honors Unit, in which a patrol from the 6th Maneuver Helicopter Battalion participated.
