Mari Brito reissues with suspense the majority in Candelaria

Mari Brito, mayor since 2015 and current president of the Fecam, yesterday reissued her status as councilor of Candelaria by repeating the same number of councilors as four years ago, although a hundred fewer votes were about to rob her of the absolute majority, which all the forecasts took it for granted, even increasing it, in the absence of a great opponent. The PP candelariero took advantage of the national wave -Jacobo Díaz was premiering as the headliner- to increase its number of councilors to six, compared to eleven for the PSOE. Canary Coalition continues to drift and the two councilors repeated, but with much fewer votes. Vox enters, even surpassing United Sí Podemos in votes, which will be left alone with Lourdes Mondejar in the Consistory, when in the Mayca Coello stage it had three councilors.

The PSOE’s difficulties in renewing the absolute majority by such a short margin was one of the great surprises in Valle de Güímar, where it was not exactly surprising that Juan Ramón Martín won, but that he did so by literally sweeping, obtaining 10 of the 13 councilors . The PSOE took out two and the PP, one. United Yes We Can disappear and Vox did not enter.
In Güímar, once again, everything will be at the expense of agreements. Luisi Castro (PP) won again, this time with nine councilors (three more), but it will depend on whether the CC and PSOE, who have governed until today -they have won five each- can find an ally in Nueva Canarias (Carlos Llarena, former socialist). or United Yes We Can, with one councilor each. A whole sudoku.

“These results are a lesson”, says the councilor candelariera

Mari Brito valued the results last night and thanked all the residents who have trusted the PSOE, highlighting “the commitment to continue working for Candelaria and materialize pending projects”, and pointing out that “these results are a lesson, to continue betting on the progress of Candelaria”, commented an emotional mayoress, after the count of the last table after midnight to confirm her second absolute majority.

It had to be a bittersweet victory for Luisa Castro, the one she won yesterday in Güímar. This newspaper could not contact her, but her close circles conveyed her sadness for not having obtained the tenth councilor by a handful of points. It is understood from the PP that with this figure it would be easier to seek an agreement with the mayor of Nueva Canarias, who was removed from the PSOE by Airam Puerta. It would be possible that PSOE and CC did not achieve the support of United Sí Podemos and NC, but by adding 10 they would always have the advantage of electing the mayor, this time without a majority, as they did four years ago.

The one who was enormously satisfied was Juan Ramón Martín, once again mayor of Arafo. “I would like to highlight the feelings of belonging to Arafo, with a broad result and a great responsibility that we have before us before the araferos and araferas who have gone to the polls.” “We have an enormous desire to continue working for our people, and the result is the result of our management in a period of lean times.”

Luisi Castro faces his own story of love and heartbreak with nationalists and socialists, which began in 2013

28M GÜÍMAR ELECTIONS

Luisi Castro became Mayor of Güímar after breaking the pact with Rafael Yanes (PSOE) and making him a motion of no confidence in 2013 with CC. He won the 2015 elections and agreed with CC as he did not have a majority, breaking the agreement before the end of his term.

In 2019 he won again with 6 councilors, but PSOE (5) and CC (4) agreed to a government with a shared mayor every two years. Now the PP has won again, with 9 minutes – this year the Consistory has gone from 17 to 21 councilors – but Luisi Castro fears that they will leave her in the opposition.
