SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 13. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Air and ground resources have been deployed to the area to work to control the outbreak of a forest fire that broke out shortly before 4:30 p.m. in Palmita de la Hiedra, inside the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, in the base of the Cascada de la Desfondada, in the municipality of El Paso.
The Cabildo de La Palma has activated level 1 for the coordination of all the works. The Command Post is currently located in the facilities of the La Palma Emergency Coordination Center (Cecopin) in Breña Alta.
Due to the complex orography of the terrain, the objective of the firefighting teams is to stop it by aerial means, which will be intervening in the area until sunset.
The means transferred to the area are personnel from the Environment Service of the Cabildo de La Palma, EIRIF, personnel from the Caldera de Taburiente National Park and the MI 61 and MI 51 helicopters of the Government’s Emergency and Rescue Group (GES). of the Canary Islands The helitransported EIRIF from La Gomera is also being transferred to the site and checkpoints have been pre-activated.
In addition there are three gangs on foot of fifteen people; the EIRIF team from La Gomera and La Palma airborne and acting in the conatus area. So far, 20 downloads have been made from the MI 61 and MI 51 helicopters. Local Police and Civil Protection also intervene in the area.
Due to the conatus, the Cabildo de La Palma has closed the PRLP13 trail of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park; the GR131 ridge path between El Pilar and El Time; and the trails around Pico Bejenado (PRLP13.3).
The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Mariano Zapata, has reported that at the moment the weather conditions in the area are good, since there is no wind, the temperature is below 30 degrees and the relative humidity is not a concern. For his part, the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, is in contact with the president of the Cabildo de La Palma and has announced that the necessary means will be deployed.
