The Town Hall of San Juan de la Rambla already has in its possession the definitive project for the rehabilitation and transformation of the Casona Delgado Oramas, from the 18th century, in the first emblematic hotel of this northern town. He total cost of the work will be 1,843,000 euroswhich will be 100% financed by the Ministry of Tourism of the canarian government. With this action, a double objective will be achieved: to rescue a historic building from ruin and provide it with a new functionality that will generate employment and will promote tourist development of the ramblero area.
The most expensive items in the project will be the renovation of all facilities and services (338,000 euros); repairs and reconstruction of floors and roofs (277,000 euros); carpentry, locksmith and glass (180,000 euros), and equipment (109,000 euros). The term of execution of the works is two years.
The new emblematic hotel will have a total area of 803 square meters of which 562 are considered useful. In this space there will be reception areas, cafeteria, art gallery, dining room, kitchen, toilets, terraces, six bedrooms with bathroom and multifunctional rooms that may host talks, conferences, presentations and other acts of public interest. The intention of the Ramblero City Council is that this emblematic hotel also becomes a space for cultural and social revitalization of the town.
The mayor of San Juan de la RamblaEzequiel Dominguez (PSOE), is very satisfied with the content of the project, which must be tendered and executed by the Consistory itself. “It will be a jewel in the middle of San Juan,” he highlights. An old desire that, at least since 2012, the municipality had been pursuing. The first big step was taken in February 2021, when the northern City Council acquired the property at a price of around 200,000 euros. The negotiations with the Government of the Canary Islands They allowed the municipality to receive an economic injection of 1.6 million euros in May 2022 for the drafting of the execution project and construction management for the rehabilitation of the house. A document that in April 2023 is already in the hands of the municipality to be able to launch its final tender as soon as possible. The objective is that this hotel can open its doors in the next mandate.
When the project was commissioned, the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla, stressed that this action “combines the firm commitment to a constant process of renewal and modernization in line with the protection and conservation of heritage.” In addition, she highlighted the importance of future use as school hotelwhich will act “as a catalyst for the area by providing essential quality training to maintain the tourism competitiveness of the Islands Canary Islands in the international market.
The historic mansion Delgado Oramas It is located right in front of the old corn exchange, which was the first Ramblero Town Hall. It is a building from the third quarter of the 18th century, built by Antonio Lorenzo Oramas de Saá (1732-1815), which is in a dilapidated state. Despite its poor condition and the reforms carried out after the damage caused by the great flood of 1826, and in later dates, this property is one of the 18th century houses in the ramblero town center with the fewest changes inside.
