A hundred social houses in Casco and Vento become the property of their tenants

A hundred residents of social housing located in the urban area of Arona and Vento will become the owners of the same, those that they enjoy at present and for forty years as tenants. The measure is possible once the Plenary approved last night, during the plenary session, the culmination of an administrative procedure that began in 1983.

Specifically, the City Council then ceded almost 26,000 square meters to build social housing. On that surface, the Government of the Canary Islands proceeded to build two developments: Hermano Pedro, made up of 101 homes located in the town of Arona, and the 51 that make up the Vento development.

The municipal government explains that for four decades, the residents had not been able to notarize and own these homes pending the administration completing the administrative procedure. Measure that, precisely, facilitates the government of Arona by presenting its proposal to the municipal plenary session.

With its approval, the transfer of the land to the Canary Islands Housing Institute is reiterated, as requested by this body dependent on the Government of Canary Islands and entity responsible for completing the process, so that the owners can be and exercise their rights.

“A decisive step”

Both the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, as well as the deputy mayor and the municipal councilor in charge of Housing, Leopoldo Díaz Oda and Julia Raquel Morales Borges, respectively, highlighted that “We are facing a key step for the residents, who will be able to own their homes and, in addition, have access to the improvement of these urbanizations.”

The local government states that its final objective is “for both social housing promotions to benefit from a regeneration and reform process like the one we are about to begin in the Virgen del Carmen urbanization, located in Guargacho, or in Cabo Blanco.”
