SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 31 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands has approved the generic regulatory bases for the granting of subsidies aimed at reducing the extra cost of extracting water from wells and galleries, desalination and the production of reclaimed water for agricultural irrigation in the Canary Islands.

These generic bases will make it possible to call these subsidies earlier, speeding up and streamlining the procedures for their publication, a procedure that will be extensible to the other calls. One of the main objectives of these aids, whose announcement will be published in April, pursues efficient management of water for agricultural irrigation as well as guaranteeing moderation in the prices of water raised from wells and galleries, desalinated, regenerated or reused. , until reaching a level equivalent to the rest of the national territory.

The expenses that can be covered with these subsidies are the electrical costs derived from the elevation of water destined for agricultural irrigation from wells and galleries or produced in the water treatment plants. The beneficiaries of these aids are mainly irrigation and water communities, as well as cooperatives and agricultural companies. In addition, those referring to audit reports, the processing of bank transfers to irrigators and the expenses of personnel dedicated to the management of the subsidy will also be supported.

The Area Councilor, Alicia Vanoostende, highlighted the importance of approving the generic bases to advance the aid and speed up all the procedures related to them. “From this year onwards, they can be called in advance since it is not necessary to prepare their own bases in each call for aid, which represents a fundamental advance and a guarantee for the sector,” she explained.

Vanoostende emphasized “the optimization of the available water to contribute to the modernization of irrigation in the Archipelago, as well as to guarantee its efficient and quality management, because water is an essential resource to carry out our crops and generate production; it is our commitment to support farmers and farmers in the face of the consequences of rising prices”.
