SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Tenerife has presented this Wednesday in Madrid its international agenda of musical, sports and cultural events for 2023 that will make the island the ideal destination to enjoy a wide range of experiences and high-level leisure throughout the year.
The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, highlighted in a note that “the island will once again host some of the best outdoor sports festivals, events and competitions at a national and international level, such as the Festival Boreal, the Spartan Race or the Dial Awards”.
This agenda of events, he points out, “allows us to make Tenerife known and continue to position itself as what it is, a modern, diverse tourist destination committed to sustainable development, with a unique heritage offer and exceptional nature”.
The insular director of Tourism, Laura Castro, stresses the importance of decentralizing the island’s cultural and sports offer beyond the metropolitan area.
“We are talking about an offer that each year attracts thousands of visitors and participants from all over the world, which contributes to boosting the economic activity of each of the municipalities where they are held, but also to fixing the population,” he points out.
The CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez, who hosted the event, assured that “this ambitious agenda is part of the internationalization and diversification strategy of the destination launched by the Cabildo de Tenerife, under the mandate of the island president , Pedro Martin.
During his speech, David Pérez highlighted the importance of the trinomial tourism, culture and sport for the destination.
“The active collaboration with promoters is vital for the positioning of Tenerife as a vanguard destination in the celebration of international events with top-level figures. In all of them we work from social responsibility and bearing in mind sustainability, maintaining our commitment to compliance of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Biosphere methodology”, he added.
The presentation of the island’s calendar of events was attended by Juan Carlos Baena, a project specialist from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), an entity to which Turismo de Tenerife is attached and which, this year, has incorporated into its work program two of the events on the Tenerife agenda.
Specifically, it is the Culture and Business Pride festival for diversity, a meeting point for activism, business, culture and leisure that will be held between July 23 and 28, and the Arona SOS Atlántico eco-sustainable festival, which It will be held from September to November in Paris, Madrid, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, Lanzarote and Tenerife, and its presentation was attended by the young activist Francisco Vera.
He also highlighted the presence of Carlos Umaña, Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 and winner of the Alan Turing Award, at Culture and Business Pride.
MUSICAL EVENTS AND SHOWS IN TENERIFE
Among the upcoming events, the closest on the calendar will be the XXVI edition of the Dial Awards, which will take place at the Fairgrounds on March 16, at a gala presented by Edurne, Nía and Carmen Ramírez.
The musical production of New Event will also make possible the presence in Tenerife of artists such as Leiva, who will be on May 6 in the Palmetum parking lot; Sting, who will arrive at the Adeje Soccer Field on June 3, or Marea, who will perform at the Santiago Martín Pavilion on November 4.
The Sunblast music festival, which will return to the island on August 12, announced the presence of J Balvin and Ozuna on its lineup, an appointment offered by the Farra Group, which plans to hold various electronic, techno, and house music festivals a over the next few months.
Easter Week will be a good time to travel to the island to enjoy the ‘I love Music’ (April 8) and ‘La Misa’ (April 7 and June 10) festivals. For its part, ‘Rhythms of the world’, one of the longest-running festivals on the island, will be held again on July 15.
Likewise, the Boreal Festival stands out, a unique cultural and sustainable event that will take place in September in the historic center of Los Silos, as well as the seventh edition of Phe Festival, which will gather in the coastal municipality of Puerto de la Cruz, on the days August 19 and 20, to prominent national, international and local artists and groups.
The Cook Music Fest, which will feature music, shows and gastronomy, will also be held in Puerto de la Cruz, from July 14 to 22.
Before that, in April, the Green World electronic music festival will take place, which will open its season on the island and will have the presence of Luciano, Raresh or Ben Sterling.
Also noteworthy is the seventeenth edition of the ‘Festival Mar Abierto’, with artists such as Andrés Calamaro, the Mujeres World Fest music festival, which will celebrate its second edition on August 26 and whose first confirmed artists are India Martínez and Pastora Soler, and the festival of rock, the Peñon Rock.
The cultural and leisure offer in Tenerife is completed with the annual event par excellence, the Carnival, as well as its varied offer of leisure and shows that continue throughout the year (such as the Scandal Dinner Show, the Olé Flamenco Show and the Siam Nights).
SPORTING EVENTS ON THE ISLAND
Tenerife will also position itself in the practice of outdoor sports throughout the year and will host events of all kinds. On November 25 and 26, the Spartan Race will be held, in which athletes from all over Europe will compete.
For the second consecutive year, the island will also host the Giro d’Italia Ride Like a Pro, a cycling tour that seeks to replicate the legendary Giro d’Italia.
A few months before, the sixth edition of La Vuelta al Teide will be held (May 6), which has a 175-kilometre route and an altitude difference of 4,400 meters.
With regard to water sports, the European surf festival Las Américas Surf Pro stands out, an event that will take place from November 25 to December 8 and that will unite sport, culture, social activism and environmental protection for two weeks.
In the same way, and after the success of the last edition, Punta Blanca Young Series will bring together the young promises of surfing and bodyboarding.
From the Cabildo, the Tenerife Bluetrail mountain race also stands out, which will take place between June 8 and 10 and offers seven modalities for people with or without disabilities.
This race, organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife, will again have the endorsement of the Ultra Trail de Mont Blanc (UTMB), the most prestigious event in the world of the specialty. In the same area, the Santa Cruz Extreme stands out, which will be held between October 13 and 14, and the Santa Cruz Marathon, which will celebrate its ninth edition at the end of the year.
For the second consecutive year, the island has also joined the Challenger tournaments of the ATP tennis circuit.
On this occasion, between January and February, Tenerife was the scene of three important professional tennis tournaments on the ATP Challenger circuit, with great international repercussions for the destination.
