SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Area of Sustainable Development and Fight against Climate Change, has reached 13,536 people with the didactic resources integrated into the Loan Service of the Environmental Education Unit.

These materials are made up of suitcases, board games and didactic exhibitions, which deal with different environmental and sustainability issues. They are assigned free of charge for a certain period of time to schools, town halls, groups and other non-profit entities that request them.

The insular councilor responsible for the Area, Javier Rodríguez Medina, has highlighted “the great acceptance of these materials by the public, whose user groups and user groups have rated them as excellent in more than half of the satisfaction surveys and good in a 46% of them.”

“The use and loan of teaching materials is a very powerful tool for environmental education, because it is under permanent review and helps organizations and teachers with updated, didactic and complete content on issues related to sustainability,” said the counselor.

During 2022, 54 schools on the island and 31 groups have participated. The educational sector means almost 55% of the total, corresponding to Infant and Primary 34% and the rest, to Secondary and Bachelor. The other 45% of the total integrates collectives, town halls, universities and training cycles.

Of the 19 resources offered, the most demanded were the exhibitions ‘How to help the Planet from your home’ and ‘Sustainable Development… what?’ and the board game ‘El Ecoparchís’, which all deal with the subject of sustainable development and the application of good sustainable practices in our daily habits.

Of the total number of loans made, more than half corresponded to exhibitions, almost 30% to board games and the rest to educational bags and backpacks.

The objective of this catalog of tools is to provide awareness-raising vehicles that serve to reinforce the environmental education programs and activities promoted by the entities. In this way, the use of this material provides three great advantages: one, that it enables the development of educational activities simultaneously in different parts of the island; another, which offers autonomy and a relevant role to teachers, monitors and entities that use and energize them, thus consolidating a network of ‘allied’ educators who propagate environmental education and, finally, reaches a large number of people, thus amplifying the awareness work carried out by the Environmental Education Unit.

This year’s figure has increased considerably due to the fact that many of the groups and some Secondary schools use these resources in municipal events, thematic weeks and open days, which have meant reaching nearly 3,000 more people than the previous edition.

The details of the service, as well as the loan conditions and the application model to participate can be downloaded on the portal https://catalogocabildoeduca.es/ and download the general catalog of the service at https://tenerifemassostenible.tenerife.es/ambitos-tematicos/…
