there was a desire to murgasor at least that was reflected in the box office of the Fairground, where the sign “sold out” hung at the beginning of the night, something that does not usually happen in the phases.
However, at 8:30 p.m., when the contest began, after the performance of the children’s murga Redoblones, which won the third prize for interpretation in the Children’s Murgas Contest, the Fairgrounds only registered half the capacity arranged for this first phase.
Before starting the contest, behind the scenes, the makeup, the songs to warm up the voice, the final touches on the costume, filled with Carnival the Fairground.
The first to take the stage were the members of Tiralenguas, winners of the last murga contest held in the north, 2020, and who this year have been invited, as is traditional, to participate in the Santa Cruz contest. After them, Zeta-Zetas, seconds of interpretation in the Summer Carnival.
In these first performances the defense of the land of the Canary Islands was the dominant trend, with both murgas making references to the controversial Cuna del Alma project.
They were followed by Trabachones, Diabólicas, Chinchosos, Burlonas -the only female to make it to the final in 2022- and Desbocados.
Dulce Fleitas and Roberto González were the masters of ceremonies, in charge of introducing the jury, made up of Víctor Brito, a TVC reporter; Esther Gómez, from Diez Capital Radio; Miguel Ángel Batista, actor and acting teacher; Melanie Alexandra Henríquez, narrator, voice actress and announcer; Natanael Padrón, sociologist and cultural manager; Miriam Caparrós, executive producer of the Magic Window Performing Arts Association; Elodiè Marcos, musician and music producer; Silvia Zorita, opera singer, and Elisa Cedrés, professional musician and teacher at the Escuela de Música Moderna de Canarias.
Presentation is made up of Héctor León, fashion designer and costume designer; Bárbara Chávez, Bachelor of Fine Arts and professor of Graphic Design; and Elizabeth Suárez, Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Today the second phase will take place at 8:30 p.m. The Diablos Locos -winners of the 2022 edition-, Mamelucos, La Sonora, Klandestinas, Tras con Tras, Ni Pico-Ni Corto and Sofocadas, which premieres this year, will open the fire.
