After almost 18 years of waiting, Martiánez beach, also known as La Barranquera, because it is the mouth of the Martiánez ravine, will be rehabilitated and improved once the General Directorate of Coasts of the Ministry of Ecological Transition published on Tuesday the public information process of the project, whose budget amounts to 10.8 million, more than double the initial one, which was five, to adjust to the current market. The deadline for submitting claims is February 28.
The beach has been losing sand continuously and this has meant that pebbles and gravel have been exposed, making it difficult to enjoy the sun and the beach typical of these environments, especially with regard to access to bathing areas, offering At present, an inappropriate service for this tourist area, very frequented by residents and visitors.
The regeneration of the Martianez Beach Its main objective is to recover this coastal space for its use and enjoyment. Thus, to resolve the loss of sand, the construction of a new defense breakwater at the southwest end of the beach, 100 meters long, is contemplated, made up of a 1.5-ton basalt breakwater core on which a double layer is arranged. of cubic blocks of concrete of 15 tons.
Added to this is the contribution of some 132,500 cubic meters of black crushed sand, from legalized quarries and authorized aggregate treatment facilities on the island, and the construction of an access to the beach adapted for access by people with reduced mobility. . The latter will consist of a ramp covered by a tropical wood pavement with a single section of less than 20 meters in length and a slope of 7%.
Last October, the mayor, Marco Gonzalez, met in Madrid with the general director of Coasts, Ana Oñoro, to request the expediting of this procedure. “We are very satisfied that the commitments that were acquired in that meeting are being fulfilled and we will not give up in the effort that the city can enjoy this much-needed improvement of our coast,” says the councilor.
End of processing
Once the new environmental study has been carried out, this procedure has been completed, which is now waiting to complete the new public information period for the three projects, consolidated into one to further speed up the process. After this period, and having studied (if any) the allegations to the project, only the positive environmental declaration would be awaited to tender and award the works.
It must be remembered that the previous environmental assessment expired at the end of 2019, which made the first agreement that the City Council signed months before with the Cabildo de Tenerife unfeasible, “the first and only in 15 years”, underlines González, to face the tender and project financing. “We continue to push from the municipality in all instances so that all the necessary procedures are completed as quickly as possible to improve this coastal area of our city,” remarks the mayor.
