SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Primary Care Management of the Health Area of Tenerife, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports, has launched the piloting of the Health Promotion Project Comprehensive program with adolescents Salud con Z aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle habits among the adolescent population in Secondary Education centers throughout the island.
Within the framework of this initiative, which begins this academic year 2022/2023, health professionals from Primary Care of the Health Area of Tenerife become health promoters in educational centers.
The objectives of Salud con Z are to help promote healthy lifestyle habits in adolescents and their families to achieve improvements in their health status and prevent diseases; bring health agents closer to a population group that rarely demands assistance, with a low perception of risk and for whom preventive work represents a large investment in order to maintain their state of health; plan and develop group work sessions that favor the transmission of knowledge, and launch a health content program adapted to different ages that allows adolescents to acquire and develop healthy lifestyles.
In this initiative, and always in coordination with the educational center, interventions are made periodically in classes from 1st to 4th of ESO in group sessions, considering educational-health activities and workshops developed in the school environment. In this form of intervention, a constructivist model of learning is proposed, with participatory work dynamics that favor motivation and the acquisition of new knowledge from the adolescents’ own interests, supporting the contents to be treated on the ESO curricular basis, promoting environments of dialogue and respect.
In addition, individual consultations are also carried out at the educational center, through the Youth Consultation, which allow adolescents to approach the health agents of the Basic Health Zone, to individually address different aspects of their interest. These individual sessions are aimed at all ESO and Baccalaureate students.
