SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Governing Council has authorized this Thursday, at the request of the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing, Sebastián Franquis, the expenditure of 2,929,558 euros corresponding to the additional payment for exceptional price review in the work of Closing the Insular Ring from Tenerife, section El Tanque-Santiago del Teide.
This measure was approved by the Government of the Canary Islands last April at the request of a state regulation that urged the autonomous communities and local entities to carry out this review in public sector contracts due to the increase in prices of raw materials. and materials, all regulated by Royal Decree Law 3/2022, of March 1.
In this sense, the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing have held different work meetings with the two construction employers’ associations in the archipelago, to find out their needs and implement measures that prevent construction companies that work with the Canary Islands administrations are harmed and the losses they suffer derived from the extraordinary increase in the prices of materials can be compensated, first due to the restrictions on mobility due to covid-19 and now due to inflation derived from the international crisis situation.
This price review applies to public works contracts, whether administrative or private, that are in execution, bidding, adjudication or formalization at the entry into force of the Royal Decree Law of March 2, 2022, indicates a note from the Government.
According to the state norm, the amount of the price review may not exceed 20 percent of the contract award price, and will require the prior request of the contractor.
This work, which is currently underway, is the largest in the entire Canarian Government with an investment of 240 million euros that includes the construction of the longest tunnel in the archipelago, the Erjos tunnel, with a length of 5.1 kilometers .
Thus, it is expected that when the work is completed, this section of the Island Ring will attract an average of 28,000 vehicles per day from the northern region of Tenerife to the south of the island.
With this layout, a definitive measure is promoted to balance North-South vehicle traffic, facilitating access for people residing in the North to the jobs offered by the South region of Tenerife, thus avoiding residence displacements that are common in today, and guaranteeing equality for all citizens of the island to access their jobs.
