Some twenty travel agencies from Madrid and Barcelona have participated this month in The ‘Ultimate Tenerife Experience’, an event organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife, through Turismo de Tenerife and its Tenerife Convention Bureau (TCB), which has allowed the professionals attending the qualities of the island for the MICE sector (events, incentive trips, conventions and product presentations).
The insular director of Tourism, Laura Castro, explains in a note that the island hosts an average of 800 meetings and events each year with the assistance of some 60,000 participants.
“It is, therefore, a sector that generates important benefits for the island from an economic point of view, by promoting the contracting of services to local companies and as a source of job creation,” he says.
Castro adds that in these four days the agencies have been able to discover all the attractions that make the island a reference destination for the organization of events.
“From our five congress centers with capacity for 4,000 people, to our 4 and 5-star accommodation, which is among the best in Europe and has multiple spaces for holding meetings and gatherings,” he comments.
For his part, the CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, David Pérez, points out that “at a peak moment” in the archipelago with the MICE sector “it is important to reinforce and promote the highly qualified and competitive value chain, to capture the greatest number of possible actions and consolidate Tenerife as a reference destination in this sector, with the support of the Tenerife Convention Bureau, which is managed through Turismo de Tenerife”.
The program included hotels such as the GF Victoria, the Botánico de Puerto de la Cruz, the Iberostar Mencey or the Hard Rock Hotel.
In the same way, dramatized routes were carried out through the historic centers of La Laguna and Garachico and Finca del Lomo, in San Miguel de Abona, and Finca Mackay, in La Laguna, were visited.
The participants also had the opportunity to get in touch with local travel agencies with experience in congress and incentive groups, as well as with suppliers linked to the celebration of large events (setting up stages, teambuilding, transportation or catering).
