SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 29 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The parliamentary groups that support the Government Pact in the Canary Islands –PSOE, NC, Sí Podemos and ASG– have registered this Tuesday a total of 149 partial amendments to the Draft Law on the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community (PGCAC) for 2023 , with which almost 50 million euros are mobilized, as well as another 35 amendments to the articles.
Thus, they affirm that, with these proposals, “magnificent” budgets are achieved that reinforce “like never before” the commitment that the Executive has made during this Legislature for the Welfare State, despite suffering world crises such as the pandemic due to the Covid and the consequences of the war in Ukraine.
The ‘Pact of Flowers’ has presented 184 partial amendments with the aim of reinforcing basic services with an “investment effort” to boost the productive fabric and protect the middle and working class of the islands.
From the Socialist Parliamentary Group they consider that these budgets consolidate the social model of this Government, and that with it the consequences of the adversities that have occurred are “stopped”, in addition to showing the social priorities “that have not stopped growing in these four years”, such as increases in health, education, social rights and housing.
The Socialists assure that the new accounts “will give continuity” to the work of the Government during the next legislature, and that they demonstrate the “cohesion and strength” that have characterized an Executive that, “despite being made up of four forces with many coincidences , but also with differences, he has known how to put that aside and finish his term, something exceptional in the Canary Islands”.
Among the amendments to the articles and the budget as a whole, the authorization of greater spending for the two Canarian public universities stands out, which will be able to have 4.5 million euros each, collects a note from the PSOE.
COMMITMENT TO THE HEALTH SYSTEM AND THE LIVESTOCK SECTOR
In addition, they highlight the reduction in food prices dedicated to livestock, with a drop in the IGIC to eliminate the burden that indirect taxation entails, and thus mitigate the impact of the price rise.
“This is a tax measure that seeks to help one of the main productive sectors of the islands to face the consequences of the economic crisis,” they detail.
Another of the notable amendments is the increase in the structural positions provided for in the templates of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), with the aim of expanding the staff and adapting them to real needs.
For the Socialists, “it is a measure that tries to offer greater stabilization for SCS personnel, in line with our commitment to improving public health in the Canary Islands and its professionals, one of the pillars of the Welfare State” .
Regarding the economic part of the amendments, the Socialists emphasize the increase in financing for the municipalities of the capitals located in the non-capital islands, as well as the improvement of the financing of the chambers of commerce of the archipelago.
By islands, the items destined to subsidize the Cabildo de El Hierro for the removal of asbestos and the conservation and maintenance of forest roads on the island stand out, as well as the introduction of improvements in the health and educational infrastructures, such as the local doctor’s office El Cotillo or a new IES in Puerto del Rosario on the island of Fuerteventura.
The proposals for Gran Canaria include the Jinámar Comprehensive Plan and the Commonwealth of the Sureste circular economy project, and in La Gomera the budget increase to promote the expansion of the Port of Playa Santiago and the Valle Gran Rey health center stands out.
ECONOMIC REACTIVATION MEASURES FOR LA PALM
For La Palma, important items have been added for tourist infrastructures that help its economic recovery after the effects of the eruption of the volcano, such as the Benahorita Archaeological Museum, the restoration of the surroundings of the Molino del Roque in Puntagorda, and the urban sports spa in San Andres y Sauces.
In Lanzarote, important items are added for the improvement of the Port of Órzola, the health center of Argana Alta and the promotion of the insular agricultural market.
In Tenerife, the increase in items for the control of subterranean termites stands out, to improve the agricultural market in the northeast of the island, as well as to condition the El Pris fishing refuge in the municipality of Tacoronte.
From the Socialist Parliamentary Group they insist that these amendments are aimed at the advancement and improvement of all the islands and not only focused on infrastructure, but also on basic services for the citizens of the Canary Islands.
“The groups of the Government Pact have agreed on these improvements based on a Budget Bill that is more than good for the Canary Islands, because it provides certainty to the future of the islands and establishes that the islands improve day by day,” they point out.
