The countdown to one of the most anticipated charity events of the year has already begun. Three years after the pink tide flooded Playa de Las Américas for the last time, thousands of people will take to the streets again on December 11 to participate in the Race for Life, the solidarity walk to support patients who struggle against breast cancer, raise awareness about the importance of early detection and promote research projects.
Since the first edition, in 2005, Carrera por la Vida has not stopped growing in number of participants, exceeding 5,000 in recent years and becoming the charity event that mobilizes more people in the Canary Islands.
The last two editions were held in an online format promoted by the Think Pink Europe network, which brings together more than thirty countries in Europe and which, in the case of Spain, chose Carrera por la Vida as its representative organization in Spain.
The walk will start at 11 in the morning from the Siam Mall, where there will be music and dancing, and will cover a distance of four kilometers to the so-called golden mile of Playa de Las Américas. The climax will be put in the finish area by a musical band, which will offer a 45-minute concert.
The president of the Carrera por la Vida Foundation, Brigitte Gypen, encouraged participation on the 11th and recalled that registrations, at a price of 5 euros, can be made on Saturdays, between 10 in the morning and 8 in the night, and the same day of the walk. Participants will receive a raffle and a pink t-shirt with the slogan of this edition: Together always (All together).
“This year, more than ever, we need to show support for the people who are fighting this disease and their families, many of them have spent this time of pandemic alone and need to receive that show of affection,” Brigitte Gypen, told this newspaper. who announced “several surprises” at the start and finish.
The organization, which has provided buses to pick up walkers who, for health reasons, cannot complete the journey, works with the “greatest enthusiasm” and trusts in a massive participation that will allow breaking the record of 5,200 people registered in the year 2018.
