SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Tenerife will have 29 percent more air capacity with the United Kingdom this winter season compared to winter 2019 and will almost reach one million seats.
This was announced by the Island Director of Tourism of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Laura Castro, who attended the World Travel Market (WTM) in London on Monday, where the delegation from Tenerife will hold thirty meetings and meetings with tour operators, airlines and media.
In the case of regular air capacity, the island’s Director of Tourism explained that this winter season there are 236,664 more seats offered than in the winter of the 2019-2020 season by companies that fly from British airports to Tenerife, which makes a total of 966,166 seats.
He also added that the forecast for January to August 2023 indicates that regular air capacity will be 2.2 percent higher than that existing in the same period of 2019. “These figures provide certainty to the sector, but now we are also working so that these places are filled with quality travelers” he added.
For his part, the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez, assured that “the good progress of the entire winter season is confirmed, while the main British operators confirm high expectations for the summer season with the Tenerife destination” .
He also said that they already see “how the strategic and positioning change carried out is bearing fruit and Tenerife is beginning to be perceived as a diverse and multi-experiential destination, which can offer nature, sports, gastronomy and culture, among many other things”.
JANUARY-SEPTEMBER DATA
Between January and September 2022, 1,462,010 British tourists entered Tenerife, 46 percent of all travelers of that nationality arriving in the Canary Islands. As for passengers, the figure rises to 1,661,556.
By airports, Manchester, London Gatwick and London-Stansted are the ones that bring the most passengers to the island, followed by Birmingham and Edinburgh. Likewise, the airlines (or groups of companies) that transferred the most travelers to Tenerife between January and September 2022 are: Jet2, Ryanair, Easyjet and TUI.
With regard to the profile of the British tourist, the average age is 49.9 years. Their average income, moreover, is 61,573 euros, 8 percent above the average of tourists who visit Tenerife, and almost 8,000 euros more than the income of British people who spent their holidays on the island in 2019. They are also among the most loyal tourists to the island (with a repetition rate of 75.2 percent) and their average tourist spending per person was 1,301 euros.
THIRTY MEETINGS
The Tenerife delegation at the WTM is headed by the island’s Director of Tourism. Along with her, the CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, representatives of Ashotel and the municipalities of Arona, Adeje, Puerto de la Cruz and Santiago del Teide, as well as technicians and some 60 companies associated with Turismo de Tenerife, an entity dependent on the Island Corporation.
The island representation will hold around thirty meetings, meetings and interviews with accredited tour operators, airlines and media at the fair, such as TUI, Thomas Cook, Love Holidays, Itaka Poland, Jet2, British Airways, Easyjet Holidays, Wanderlust, Budget Traveler , Destination2, Travel Weekly or Conde Nast Traveler, among others.
In these meetings, emphasis will be placed on the commitment to the sustainability of the destination, its authenticity, and the search for a traveler who is looking for experiences that the island can offer during their stay.
