SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Oct. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The CC-PNC group in the Cabildo de Tenerife has denounced the “chaotic” situation that the centers dependent on the Institute of Social and Socio-Sanitary Care (IASS) are suffering due to the “mismanagement” of the PSOE and has demanded an urgent solution so that users are treated with dignity.
The spokesman for the nationalist group in the Cabildo, Carlos Alonso, and the deputy for Tenerife Rosa Dávila explained the situation today Wednesday at a press conference where they demanded “an immediate solution to care for patients in a dignified manner.”
Rosa Dávila indicated that the IASS Company Committee “has denounced the mistreatment of patients due to the current PSOE government team.” “We are talking about the elderly, minors, women victims of gender-based violence and people with disabilities who are not receiving decent and adequate treatment. All unions denounce the lack of human resources and lack of material to carry out their work. This has a negative impact on the service provided to users and patients, producing unsustainable situations”, added the deputy.
For Dávila, “it is obscene to have to talk about things like they don’t have towels, sheets or running water. According to the Company Committee, there are no towels and they clean the elderly with pillowcases; bed linen is missing and you have to put the themselves (dirty); in the centers there is only one person to take care of all the minors when the mothers are not there; lack of water in the centers and the babies cannot be bathed”.
Rosa Dávila indicated that the Works Committee has presented 16 documents between June and September of this year giving an account of the situation of the different centers “without obtaining a response from Pedro Martín or Marian Franquet”. “That has led to an unsustainable situation”, which is why the Canarian Coalition has demanded that an immediate solution be put in place. “We ask that a dialogue be opened with the representatives of the workers, who suffer continuous contempt from the PSOE,” said Dávila.
The deputy indicated that it is necessary to guarantee the provision of basic goods and materials for the care of users, both clothing and a stable supply of water in all centers. Likewise, it supported the request of the IASS Committee to approve the modification of the List of Job Positions of the IASS workforce agreed with the representation of the workers on April 22, 2022 and approved by the Governing Council on April 28 of July 2022 without any reduction or reduction of the vacancies and positions of labor personnel already agreed.
HEALTH AND SOCIAL SITUATION IN TENERIFE.
For his part, Carlos Alonso explained the situation in Tenerife today “with a demand for 7,000 residential places, according to data provided by the Cabildo.” “In the previous mandate the figure was around 3,500 people and in these three and a half years it has doubled. That is due to the paralysis and neglect of Pedro Martín and Marian Franquet, who are unable to respond to more than 7,000 people who demand a social-sanitary bed,” he denounced.
Alonso indicated that this causes another series of problems “such as those denounced by the doctors’ unions, where there are people occupying places in hospitals due to the lack of social and health beds. In Tenerife there are 208 people in hospitals occupying a bed because their families do not want or they can deal with them. It’s a very serious situation.”
The spokesperson for the Canarian Coalition wanted to recall that in 2019 they planned twenty actions of the IASS Social and Health Infrastructure Plan to create 2,500 new places. “It was an investment of 90 million euros between 2019-2022, but the PSOE paralyzed it. Many of those beds could have already been in operation,” he assured.
Carlos Alonso criticized that they have now announced that they are processing the construction of nine senior centers with 639 places: “We fear that they are only announcements. In 2020 they said that they would transfer patients from Febles Campos and they have not done so.”
And he ended by pointing out that the social management of Pedro Martín and Marian Franquet is “disastrous”. “What they did with ANSINA was a dirty trick. They left the elderly without activities in the middle of the pandemic and laid off workers at the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis. That is inexcusable,” he said.
