Asking for things outside the menu can be dangerous, especially for your pocket. This happened to some Canarians in a well-known restaurant in the north of Tenerife who were stunned when they saw the bill after an “acceptable” meal.
“The truth is that we cannot remember much if the food was good or bad, that it was acceptable, but the wine issue seemed like the scam of the century”assured the Tripadvisor user Ivanvd. You have to be careful when ordering alcoholic beverages whose price you don’t know, that’s for sure.
“They recommended a wine off the menu, a full-bodied, delicate and well-structured wine, Roda I, yes, whatever you want my king, but if you recommend a wine off the menu, please, don’t forget to mention that “little “Detail that the bottle cost a whopping 70 euros.”
The problem does not come from the valuation of the wine, which surely deserves it, but from “not being notified” of the amount beforehand. Although it is true that they did not ask either. When in doubt, why not do it? But customers say they even had “some luck.”
“Luckily it was the last one, because we asked for another bottle and there was no more of this one. The one we ordered, which was on the menu, had a normal price”, the user comments on the review. The restaurant responded very politely, taking care of the case. “The very morning after his comment, I contacted his friend, who made the reservation, to convey our apologies and give him the option to speak at length at the restaurant.”
The wine that these Tenerife customers ordered “may have seemed expensive but we are competitive: in restaurants on the island we have recently seen it at 78 and 84 euros, respectively.” Everything seems to have been left in a lack of understanding between both parties, although it seems that the restaurant at no time had the objective of deceiving anyone.
The manager of the premises closed his response by apologizing and commenting that they are waiting for them in the restaurant itself to “transmit them in person.
