The CSIF Trade Union Organizationwith representation in the Local Police Corps of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, requires the Councilor for Security, Traffic and Mobility, Evelyn Alonsoto rectify the statements made in different media, in which, in order to justify the absence of local police during the concert held at the TAO nightclub in the capital of Tenerife last Friday, September 30, which led to a crowd brawl“he poured falsehoods in relation to the powers of the Local Police regarding access to entertainment venues, or intervention in the maintenance of citizen security, bottles, etc.”

The union refers to the mayor’s statements in which he assured that citizen security is the responsibility of the National Police, and not the Local Police. According to the CSIF, which describes the Security Councilor’s statements as “unfortunate”, “justifies the absence of local agents on the night mentioned, in which the competences in citizen security are not typical of the Local Police, as well as the interventions in entertainment venues or the intervention to eradicate large bottles in the city”, these tasks, on the other hand, are usually carried out by the Local Police of Santa Cruz.

The CSIF had already denounced that the absence of the Local Police on the night of Friday, September 30, was due to the cancellation of the reinforcements that had been maintained on the occasion of the summer season during the weekends, and that, given the fala of personnel, it is impossible to face facts like the ones at TAO nightclub.

“What was dumped by the mayor -continues the union- could lead to misunderstandings when agents intervene in such events, and may cause added risks to police functions, or harm to citizens”. For this reason, from CSIF they demand that the councilor clarify her words.
