The Cabildo de La Palma, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, has presented in the Port of Tazacorte the ‘Gastronomic Route of the Sea in La Palma’, a project that seeks to integrate all the components linked to activity and culture seafood, highlighting the island’s gastronomic wealth.
The director of the area, Manuel González, stressed that this project “comes to value the long relationship between our Island and the sea through a laborious study on different aspects that relate it to the coast, making it available to the general public “.
“This project brings together the fundamental pillars such as tourism and gastronomy. Being an island as we are, surrounded by the sea, we want this to help us get closer to the magnificent coastline that we have,” he added.
The event was attended by the Agriculture technician of this Institution, Elías Bienes, who explained to the attendees the characteristics of the Route and the possibilities it has.
For his part, the mayor of Tazacorte, David Ruiz, highlighted the link between the municipality and fishing activity and defended that “the Route is committed to promoting local products, supporting the palm fishing sector, the island’s restoration, as well as as a tourist attraction for visitors”.
Through this guide, available at www.mardesaboreslapalma.es , it will be possible to access the contents included in the route, among which is general information about La Palma, paying special attention to the coastal area and the fishing sector, also giving prominence to restaurants and points of sale of seafood , and allowing to discover landscapes, corners, history and traditions linked to the coast. It is complemented by a download section with a map that helps to discover the Island along its coastline.
The Gastronomic Route of the Sea in La Palma is a project of the Cabildo de La Palma, financed jointly with the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the General Directorate of Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands. It has the participation of the Local Fisheries Action Group and ADER La Palma.
