The City Council of Cross portthrough the Departments of Citizen Participation, Health and Beaches, promoted between September 12 and 25 a Public consultation about creating smoke free zones in Playa del Castillo and that resulted in the participation of 231 people, of which 173 (74.89%) were of the opinion that 100% of the beach was smoke-free.
Councilor María Jesús Hernández is satisfied with the promotion of the new platform ‘Participa Puerto de la Cruz’ among citizens, who have been able to get involved for the first time in participation through the consultations that will continue to be made on the website of the municipality .
The consultation was made to residents over 16 years of age and only 33 people (14.29%) opted for a 50% smoke-free beach and 25 people (10.82%) preferred that the entire area be allowed to smoke.
The Councilor for Health and Beaches, Alberto Cabo, values in a note “the involvement of citizens who have given a positive opinion about this initiative to create smoke-free zones, for what it means to promote health and healthy lifestyles , and reduction of pollution on our coasts”.
With the result of this vote, Cross port it is provided with new tools to continue advancing in the different participatory processes to add people and groups to the procedures, involving them in decision-making for the progress and improvement of the city, summarizes the City Council.
