The Plaza del Cristo turned yesterday afternoon into a party with the celebration of the first Inclusive Verbena of the Canary Islandsa pioneering event organized by the Municipality of La Lagunawithin the framework of the Fiestas del Cristo, and which featured various musical performances, accompanied by all the support resources and tools adapted to various disabilities so that all attendees could enjoy themselves under equal conditions.

Thus, for example, there were guides and interpreters to facilitate the conversation and integration of blind and deafblind people; with the municipal service of sensitive backpacks, which transformed music into vibrations for deaf or deafblind people; with adapted and preferential spaces for the public, with a dance area for people in wheelchairs, as well as support staff, accessible transport, or with rest areas and adapted toilets. Likewise, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and those with mental health problems, had access to specialized care personnel and all the informative material in certified Easy-Read format and OCR system.

The verbena started at 5:00 p.m. with parades and batucadas, a first edition that featured the Paralympic medalist and swimmer from Club Midayu Tenerife, Michelle Alonso, as godmother.

In addition, a flashmob was held, directed by Itahisa Dubois from DanSign, which fused music, dance and sign language with pictograms, so that everyone in the audience could participate in equal conditions, while learning different forms of language. and communication.

This meeting, which is here to stay, also featured musical performances by the Dorada Band orchestra and Tambawa Percusión, Dibatuka and Miartefactor.

Likewise, tomorrow the celebration of the first Inclusive Folklore Festival of the municipality is planned. Although from the City Council it was communicated yesterday that, according to weather forecasts, from Fiestas the suspension of acts will be considered if the alert is finally declared.
