The Cabildo de Tenerife closes the Barranco de Masca in the face of high temperatures

The Council of Tenerife will activate this Sunday different extraordinary measures of degree 1 for the forest fire preventionbefore the alert decreed by the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands.

According to the Island Corporation, while this alert lasts, the cultural use of fire is prohibited (agricultural and forestry burns, prescribed, stubble, scrub, waste…) and recreational (barbecues, bonfires, campfires and gas stoves, among others).

In the same way, the use of any type of machinery or tool that can project sparks is suspended (brush cutters, welding equipment or radial cutters) and any pyrotechnic material in risk areas.

In this regard, the Minister of Management of the Natural Environment and Security, Isabel García, also indicated that the route of the Barranco de Masca will remain closed on Sunday due to the high temperatureswhich could exceed 36 degrees.

From the Cabildo it is recommended in this way take extreme precautions with any activity that can generate fires (tobacco, use of generator sets, electrical and pyrotechnic material…) and the Forest Management Technical Service is ordered to establish the necessary services to address the risk situation.
