The Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, presided this Thursday at the inauguration ceremony, in San Sebastián de La Gomera, of Juan Luis Navarro as the new island director of the General State Administration in La Gomera.
Navarro replaces Mario Cruz as head of the Insular Directorate in La Gomera, who resigned from his position last June for personal reasons and to whom the Government delegate in the Canary Islands wanted to recognize his work over the last three years, also wishing him all the best in its new stage, as reported by the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands in a press release.
At the inauguration ceremony, in which the sub-delegate of the Government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Javier Plata, was also present, the Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, highlighted the technological profile of the new island director in La Gomera , highlighting his experience in the management of European funds, as well as his “versatility and display of management capacity” both at the university level and in other fields of teaching.
He added that his “extensive experience and management capacity” throughout his professional career in the field of teaching and research, in which he has managed “with recognized solvency” various human and material groups, “constitutes a magnificent endorsement to occupy the position that he assumes today”.
Pestana has recommended “confidence, conviction and, above all, work, work and work in coordination with all public powers as the main tool to fight in these complicated moments” that he has had to live through.
He also highlighted the “important work” that Juan Luis Navarro has ahead of him as “voice and link” between La Gomera and the Spanish Government, “particularly at a time when, even without the Covid-19 pandemic being over, and with the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, joint work, dialogue, austerity, coordination and rigor are more necessary than ever in order to move forward”.
Navarro was born in San Sebastián de La Gomera in 1966 and is a Telecommunications Engineer and doctor in Signal Theory and Communications from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, he is a full professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and a member of the School of Engineering of Telecommunications and Electronics (EITE).
