The businessmen of the south of Tenerife ask that the three beaches planned in the region be executed “urgently”: San Blas, in San Miguel de Abona; Los Tarajales, in Los Cristianos (Arona), and Las Salinas, in Adeje, considering these projects “priority” to enhance the offer of the main tourist municipalities in the south of Tenerife. In addition, they demand that improvement works be authorized in El Camisón (Arona), Fañabé beach (Adeje) and El Veril (Adeje).
“These are projects that have been paralyzed for too long due to the inactivity of the responsible administrations, which have turned a deaf ear to the demands of the municipal councilors,” say the businessmen in the document Eight steps for the future of the South, prepared by the Círculo of Entrepreneurs and Professionals of the South of Tenerife (CEST), which includes the main demands of the mayors of the region.
It warns of “uncontrolled use” in different parts of the southern coast, “occupied by clandestine settlements that produce garbage and discharge into the sea.” In his opinion, the coasts and the sea are “engines of the economy”, but they warn that their enormous potential is being “disregarded” due to bureaucratic limitations and “unequal treatment” with respect to other regions of Spain.
Teno-Rasca Zone
In this sense, they refer to the proposed regulation of the Special Conservation Zone (ZEC) between Teno and Rasca, which, in their opinion, “will further increase the obstacles and bureaucracy to carry out any activity at sea or in the coast”, understanding that it introduces elements of “legal uncertainty and insecurity” that put current investments and those destined for new activities at risk.
According to the Círculo de Empresarios, “many measures respond to non-existent problems generated by non-compliance with current regulations, others worsen the safety of boats and passengers, and others suppose an additional excess of bureaucracy that seriously affects the viability of many companies. ”.
The business analysis of the blue economy includes the vindication of the Masca and Teno piers, the adaptation of anchoring areas with permanent buoys, the promotion of the projects of the municipalities of the South that are part of the Tenerife and the Sea program and the improvement of bathing areas (including natural pools) and seafront promenades.
The document also includes, among other demands, the need to update the regulations for whale watching and the authorizations to be able to renew the maritime fleet destined for said services, as well as the speeding up of the project for the beach area in Las Eras, in the Municipality of Fasnia, once the breakwater works are carried out, and the expansion of Los Roques Bay, also on the Fasniera coast.
