SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 18. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, held a meeting on Monday with the president of the Republic of Cape Verde, José María Pereira Neves, in which the joint will to strengthen dialogue and economic and social cooperation was revealed .

The meeting served for reflection and analysis on the health, environmental and socioeconomic challenges that are currently being faced, after these difficult years that have been experienced after the pandemic.

Among the issues on the agenda, the interest in closer collaboration between Tenerife and Cape Verde on academic issues stands out, to strengthen collaboration between universities and scientific foundations between both territories.

The CEO of the Foreign Action area, Liskel Álvarez, and a diplomatic delegation from Cape Verde, who accompanied its president, participated in the meeting, according to a note from the Cabildo.

Pedro Martín recalled some of the corporation’s initiatives with African countries in the area of research and innovation, such as the collaboration with the Canarian Foundation for the Control of Tropical Diseases (FUNCCET) to promote research projects, prevention and control of tropical diseases and improvements in health, with Cape Verde being one of the priority countries to develop such actions.

Liskel Álvarez, meanwhile, referred to the ‘Africa Scholarships’, whose bases for carrying out training practices abroad have already been published, as a preliminary step to the call.

The Cabildo will allocate this year an item of 360,000 euros with the aim of promoting the internationalization of the economy of Tenerife, through non-labour training practices abroad for graduates from the island and an outstanding part of the practices materialize with Cape Verde companies.

José María Pereira Neves is on the island for the celebration of ‘Campus Africa’, where he participates in an event linked to the celebration of ‘Nelson Mandela Day’, a meeting in which, on behalf of the Cabildo, there will be the assistance of the second vice president and island councilor for the Presidency, Finance and Modernization, Berta Pérez.

The reception ended with the signing of the honor book of the Insular Corporation.
