The political groups that make up the Cabildo de Tenerife (CC, PSOE, PP and Cs) have rejected the Sí Podemos Canarias proposal for a tourist moratorium and limitation on the creation of new hotel beds to alleviate congestion on the island. Specifically, the organization proposes to redirect the “mass and all-inclusive tourism model that is depredating Tenerife”, towards sustainable and quality tourism in which the protection of the “fragile territory” is ensured.

The purple group has accused the parties that have rejected its proposal of betting “on the unsustainability of a developmentalist tourism model without limits that is being the grave of the scarce territory without preying on the island.”
“The traditional political class of this island prefers to continue squeezing the tourist model that continues to plunder every last centimeter of land in exchange for benefiting a few private pockets, since the citizens of Tenerife continue to suffer job insecurity in an economic sector in which benefits do not affect the well-being of the population ”, has pointed out the insular group of Sí Podemos Canarias.
The organization has alluded to the La Tejita hotel or the project that is intended to be carried out in Puertito de Adeje and has indicated that its contrary position is not related to “tourism phobia”.
“Proposing a tourist moratorium does not mean that we want tourists to disappear, as some political parties have tried to brand us during the debate. It is about facing the undeniable problem that we have with the overpopulation of the island to prevent us from destroying the natural resources that make our land and biodiversity a unique space in the world”, added the party.
In recent months, at least two major projects have been announced on the island: a motor circuit and a set of luxury villas in one of the few remaining virgin areas in the south of the island. This latest project is Cuna del Alma, which aims to urbanize more than 430,000 square meters of a ravine and a beach in Puertito de Adejein the south of Tenerife.
Currently, these works remain stopped as a precautionary measure after the Teguico Heritage Association denounced that there were archaeological remains in the area of the works. Subsequently, Heritage carried out two inspections and verified that, indeed, the remains had been damaged and destroyed.
In a report to which Canarias Now has had access, the technician in charge of writing it affirms that the damage in a specific deposit “is irreversible” and that these remains are (or were), in addition, of great importance, for which he qualifies the destruction as “very serious”. This construction is also surrounded by a Special Conservation Area (ZEC) and the La Caleta Site of Scientific Interest.
