After two years of waiting due to restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, the northern municipality of Tacoronte yesterday recovered its traditional pilgrimage in honor of San Isidro Labrador, which celebrated its XXXI edition.
Under a splendid sun that made the festival more joyful and splendid, the streets of Tacorontera once again experienced a great day dedicated to Canarian traditions, where the music of the parrandas and the carts were the protagonists of a massive parade, with people from all over the world. the corners of the Island and also from other places in the Archipelago. Without going any further, a group of dancers from El Hierro was in charge of escorting the image of the patron saint to the rhythm of her traditional whistles, drums and chácaras.
In one of the decorated carts, the largest pilgrimage of the San Isidro 2022 Festivities paraded, Naiara López de León, accompanied by the other five young participants in an election that had not been held for a decade. In addition, this year, the Tacoronte City Council wanted to organize for the first time the election of the largest pilgrim of the festivities, but the call was declared deserted as no candidate presented himself.
The festive day began at noon in the parish with a Canarian mass, sung by the Guarache Folk Group. Next, the pilgrimage began along the usual route, from the Santa Catalina Church to El Calvario (La Alhóndiga), and back. Then the party was finished off with a great popular festival in the Plaza de la Iglesia Santa Catalina, where the Zona 7 Orchestra performed.
The festivities of San Isidro de Tacoronte will continue on Friday, the 8th, with the traditional dance of magicians that, due to the threat of rain, was suspended and postponed to Friday. For the same reason, the City Council decided to relocate the III Regional Dance and Folklore Exhibition of Tacoronte, which finally took place in the cultural center of the La Caridad neighborhood.
