The council will invest 215 million euros until 2026 in interurban public transport by bus on the Island. The Island Government Council approved the largest program contract with the company Titsa for the next five years. It includes for the first time clauses on service quality such as punctuality, frequency and traveler satisfaction. The objective is, precisely, to improve the passenger’s assessment.
The Island Mobility area launches the new agreement signed with titsa which regulates the conditions for the provision of the intercity public service of regular passenger transport by road in Tenerife between 2022 and 2026.
The first vice president and island councilor for Mobility, Enrique Arriaga, details that “the Cabildo will invest exactly 214,631,338; This contract for the next five years includes the services that the company must provide and, for the first time, quality standards are introduced to achieve more efficient and sustainable care.
42 million annually.
With a contribution of more than 42 million euros per year, it is the largest program contract in the history of the transport company “which is guaranteed financial stability in exchange for the provision of a public service of the highest quality” explains the councilor of the Tenerife Cabildo.
Titsa provides service on 125 interurban lines distributed throughout all the municipalities of the Island. They cover a total of 28,605,133 kilometers per year within the limits of these 31 municipalities. That distance is like without the company going to the Moon 75 times each year or the equivalent of going around the Earth 715 times.
“Our goal is to improve public passenger transport over the next five years”
Public transport.
The insular director of Mobility, José Alberto León, highlights that “the Cabildo’s commitment to public transport is evident”. He adds that “throughout this legislature we have worked to provide a better service to the user.”
León recalls that to achieve this goal “we have remodeled routes that are better adapted to demand, increased frequencies, or, for example, undertaken the renewal of the fleet that we are already doing and that we have designed for the coming years.”
The island director also assures that these objectives will be achieved in this threshold of the next five years “with more comfortable and environmentally sustainable vehicles.”
Line reordering.
Titsa is right now in a process of reorganization of lines because, as Enrique Arriaga states, “some have seen demand decrease and others, especially those going south, have increased exponentially”. In this sense, he anticipates that “we are going to enable a direct aeroexpress bus, like the ones that now go to Tenerife-North from Santa Cruz, Puerto de la Cruz and Costa Adeje, the 020, 030 and 040, to the South Airport” .
New season.
Titsa launched its summer schedules last Saturday, June 25, which will be in force until the beginning of September. The company adapts the frequency of some of its lines in order to adjust its offer to the new demands of passengers during the season, especially the services that are destined for the coastal towns of the Island. The objective is that the bus is also in summer the first option to travel “to contribute to the decongestion of the roads and avoid difficulties in finding parking,” explains the councilor Enrique Arriaga.
Summer time on the tram
The Tram activates summer time from today. The president of Metrotenerife, Enrique Arriaga, points out that with the new frequencies the service is adapted to the drop in demand during the working week and the transport offer is adapted to the summer season. Arriaga emphasizes that “as usual, with the arrival of summer the activity in Santa Cruz and La Laguna drops considerably and for this reason we will adapt the frequencies.” On weekdays, Line 1 will operate every 6 minutes and Line 2 every 12 in the middle of the day. In the weekend service, both during the day and at night, there will be no changes. From July 11 to August 31 there will be a new adaptation of frequencies: Line 1 will provide service every 7 minutes, and Line 2, every 14.
