Tacoronte invests 1.3 million in transforming a wrestling arena

The Tacoronte City Hall will invest 1.3 million euros in the project to rehabilitate the Piedra de Torres wrestling arena, in the neighborhood of light, and reconvert it into a multifunctional center capable of hosting different sporting, social and cultural events. Without ceasing to be a temple for Canarian wrestling, the goal of the Local government (NC-PSOE-SSP) is to transform it into a more versatile space, equipped with a land area with a removable sand cover systemstands, gym, cafeteria, universal accessibility and a patio and covered access ramps.

The architect responsible for the project, Rafael Jaenhas proposed an innovation with a two-layer PVC fabric cover, which will create an intermediate air chamber, “with which leaks will be avoided and the building will gain other thermal and acoustic advantages». The rehabilitation will allow the development of activities in better conditions of accessibility, habitability, comfort and energy efficiency throughout the year, since photovoltaic and solar thermal energy capture systems will be incorporated.

The detachable type plate system cover floor will provide protection and security to the sand surface, which will allow this space to be used for other sporting or cultural activities, such as plays, musical presentations, forums, conferences or entertainment activities. karate, taekwondo, judo, boxing, beach volleyball, gymnastics or yogaamong other.

new gym

The arena will be adapted to the regulatory measures and the stands will have seats; the cafeteria will serve the users of the land and abroad; there will be a new space for referees with toilet included and an infirmary at the foot of the track. In addition, the changing rooms will serve both the wrestling teams and the users of the new gym on the ground floor.

The new access ramp from the ground floor to the ground floor will end one of the most important shortcomings of this property. Its new covered patio, which can be incorporated into the activities of the gym, will have a plastic awning (PVC) that will prevent the rain from also affecting traffic on the ramp.

The mayor of Tacoronte, Jose Daniel Diaz (NC), underlines that the works of this project have an expected duration of less than 12 months from the tender and that, once completed, they will allow the start-up of a fighting school. The councilor responsible for Works, Services, and Sports, Antonio Gil Goya (NC)shows his satisfaction at the possibility of making “this old neighborhood demand that can now finally become a reality, decades of abandonment and lack of alternatives” a reality.

More accessible spaces

For Gil Goya, another of the keys to this initiative is that “it will allow the comprehensive redistribution of rooms and new spaces, which will be more accessible” for sports, social and cultural activities. The addition of the gym, available to both fighters and the neighbors of Tacoronte«will generate for the neighborhood and the municipality more links with sport».

The mayor concludes that this reform of the Piedra de Torres wrestling arena «not only does it allow to recover a sports space in an area with a great tradition in this discipline, but it also gains a new range of possibilities for the neighborhood of La Luz, which in addition to offering its inhabitants reissue its historical link with the Canarian wrestling, will have a new resource in which to organize all kinds of acts and events of interest to this town. After receiving the approval of the municipal plenarythe Tacorontero Consistory will have to start the bidding process for this work initially valued at 1,301,576 euros.
