On the morning of this Monday, the 275 soldiers who make up the third and last rotation of the Spanish contingent BRILIB XXXVI, 45 bound for Madrid, 138 to Tenerife and 92 to the island of Gran Canaria, arrived in the Canary Islands, and have been carrying out their duties in southern Lebanon for the past six months.
With this arrival of personnel, the return of the more than 650 troops that made up the XXXVI Lebanon Brigade has been completed. This latest return rotation was led by General Ramón Armada, Chief of the 16th ‘Canarias’ Brigade, who has returned to national territory after fulfilling his command as Chief of the East Sector International Brigade.
After having successfully completed their mission, they were received by Lieutenant General Alejandro Escámez, Chief of the Canary Islands Command of the Army, as well as by a delegation of military authorities made up of the different unit chiefs of the 16th ‘Canarias’ Brigade. At the airport, a welcome to the island of Gran Canaria awaited them from their relatives, colleagues and friends.
This Spanish contingent, led by the 16th ‘Canarias’ Brigade and with the participation of other Units of the Canary Islands Command of the Army of the General Command of Ceuta, General Command of Melilla and the 22 Transmission Regiment, has been deployed since last month giving continuity to the work started by previous contingents, with the task of monitoring compliance with UN Resolution 1701, collaborating with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in the south of the country and along the Blue Line, line virtual space separating Lebanon and Israel.
