The Department of Beaches and Swimming Pools of the City Council of La Laguna has limited the use of the Arenasco pool, in Hidalgo Point, in order to get the installation ready for the summer. Work has already started and is focused on rehabilitating the basin, due to its poor condition, as cracks have been detected in the structure and it has lost part of its protective layer. During the development of the work (when there is low tide), the bathing area is marked and remains closed, but is then reopened when it is filled.
The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, recalls that this action is added to the one already carried out in the Bajamar swimming pools to “offer quality public services to citizens. Our purpose is that both visitors and neighbors can enjoy in the summer season modern spaces adapted to their needs, in one of the richest natural and scenic corners of the municipality and that, without a doubt, we must promote and safeguard “, add.
The Consistory has also recently reopened Bajamar beach, after the completion of the repair work on the breakwater undertaken by the Cabildo de Tenerife. Therefore, the local councilor and the councilor responsible for the area, Cristina Ledesma, hope to “welcome summer with fully equipped bathing areas.”
The mayor calculates that the work will be completed in mid-June and trusts that “the behavior of the tides will not cause delays in its execution, so that it can be 100% in service when the school year ends.”
The intervention “is very similar to the one already carried out in vessel II of Bajamar, although at the beginning of its repair we have found internal cracks that we did not know were there.” The problem, he indicates, is that “there has been a lack of conservation, because no type of action of this type had been carried out since they were built.”
The state of deterioration in which the Bajamar vessel II and the Sandstone were found has led the Department of Beaches and Pools to “prioritize these two works. The area has made a significant effort to be able to carry out these complex works, because we have to wait for favorable weather conditions to be able to act inside the structures, with the aim of continuing to provide quality services in this part of the coast, one of our main tourist attractions”, adds Cristina Ledesma.
