The Global Mercy, the newest hospital ship in the NGO Mercy Ships (Ships of Hope), is already in the Granadilla port.
The Global Mercy comes from the port of Rotterdam. During its stay in Tenerife – it has six operating rooms, 200 beds, a laboratory, outpatient clinics and ophthalmological and dental offices – it will continue to be equipped as a hospital and the crew of cooperating volunteers will be completed for its next humanitarian mission.
First Global Mercy to Africa
The first visit to Africa is scheduled for the end of May in Senegal, where the Global Mercy will join the other Mercy Ships hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, which has been operating there since last February, after spending almost two years of pandemic in Granadilla.
When both ships are fully operational, Mercy Ships expects to perform more than 5,000 surgeries, more than 28,000 dental treatments and train more than 2,800 medical professionals each year.
