The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín; The Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Teresa Berástegui, and the Mayor of Garachico, Heriberto González, visited this Thursday the improvement and conditioning works that are being carried out at the access to the bathing area of Caleta del Andén and whose completion date is scheduled for next June.
These works are the product of collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo de Tenerife. Specifically, the Ministry has earmarked 258,183 euros for this action materialized through a direct grant to the Cabildo, which is responsible for carrying out the works.
The action contemplates not only the improvement of the accessibility and adequacy of the existing entrances to the Caleta, but also the organization of the car park. In addition, and according to the project of the Cabildo, it will be used to have landscaped areas, small wooden platforms and a small esplanade that will form a viewpoint square.
The president of the Cabildo said that these works “allow to recover a corner that has a special charm and that with the renovation of the accesses it recovers a new value”. He added that this action “is within all those that are being carried out on the coast of the Island for the use and enjoyment of the neighbors, but also of those who visit us; a path in which we are involved Cabildo and Government of the Canary Islands”.
According to Teresa Berástegui, “with this type of action, Canarian Tourism intends to promote all those infrastructures that generate added value to the destination, in this case in the municipality of Garachico, so that they can improve these environments both for those who visit the island and for the residents of the area”. “These are interventions that will allow us to have more accessible places, and with modern infrastructures that are in line with today’s reality,” she added.
Something in which the general director of Tourist Infrastructures, Fernando Miñarro, has agreed: “We improve accessibility to Caleta del Anden so that we can all enjoy open-air spaces by the sea, with modern infrastructures adapted to current reality”, highlighted.
For his part, the mayor of Garachico thanked the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo for the effort made to promote the works with which an area that was in very poor condition and that before the execution of the project lacked interest has been revitalized. tourist.
The island’s director of Tourism, Laura Castro, stressed that it is “a socially responsible investment that allows the residents of Garachico to enjoy a special environment, in addition to ensuring their safety, with which the Cabildo contributes to the territorial cohesion of the municipalities with the improvement of the tourist infrastructures of the north and south”.
ACTIONS INITIATED
Access to Caleta del Andén is currently from a pedestrian path that has two entrances, one on a stone staircase and the other on a dirt ramp, which begin their descent towards the sea from a 900 m2 parking area.
The works that have already started are being carried out both in the car park and in the entrance paths, so that it is possible to enter and leave La Caleta del Andén comfortably and safely. Specifically, the car park is being reorganized, which will be resurfaced, and the two access paths to the beach are being repaired.
In these two access roads, the action consists of reinforcing the walls and improving the pavement of each of the roads by laying basalt stone. In the case of the entrance by the stairs, in addition, the beginning of the layout is being widened and the walls are replaced by new masonry ones.
The works also contemplate the improvement of storm drainage for which action will be taken on the parking platform and on the sidewalk, so that the water is channeled towards new scuppers.
