The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands confirmed today three other positive cases in the BA.2 subvariant of ómicron in Tenerife. According to the department, these diagnoses correspond to the first 18 samples that were in the process of sequencing in the Microbiology laboratories of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria and Doctor Negrín university hospitals -Initially, the administration had reported that there were 14 samples that were under suspicion-. In this way, the Archipelago already has 12 confirmed clinical pictures, of which eight have been detected in Tenerife and four in Gran Canaria. In addition, there are already hundreds of samples pending to be analyzed in the laboratories.
According to the Ministry, from the General Directorate of Public Health they have called for calm after verifying that the new sublineage of the pathogen is having a “similar” behavior to that of the original variant, despite being more contagious. Therefore, it has not caused more serious symptoms.
