The Tenerife Firefighters Consortium expands the template with ten new firefighters professionals and another forty who will form a reserve list. This has been decided in an extraordinary session by its Executive Committee. In addition, it has approved the construction tender for the completion of the Guimar Park with a contract budget amounting to 564,543 euros. Most of these new troops will make up the staff assigned to the facility that will be located in the south of the island.
The appointment of these new interns and the approval of the reserve list is based on the results of the long selection process to fill the driver specialist firefighter positions that was still in progress. This decision has been made in an extraordinary session of the Executive Committee of the Tenerife Fire Prevention, Extinction and Rescue Consortium. Within this framework, the work tender file for the completion of the Güímar Industrial Estate warehouse as a Fire Station has also been approved. This project has a bidding period of twenty days and an execution period of six months.
Training
The ten new firefighters and the forty members of the reserve list will now receive specific training in which they will be provided with the basic, theoretical and practical knowledge required to perform the job. Likewise, with the aim of guaranteeing the effectiveness of the reserve list, the possibility of including positions from 51 to 63 has been approved to fill possible vacancies that may arise as a result of resignations that take place before the start of the course. This meeting of the Committee was held electronically and was attended by the island director of Security of the Cabildo and president of the Consortium, Rubén Fernández; the vice president and representative of the Santa Cruz City Council, Evelyn Alonso; the general director of Security and Emergency of the Government of the Canary Islands, Gustavo de Armas; the manager of the Consortium, José Vargas, and several representatives of consistories of the Island.
The Consortium published in mid-March 2019 the specific bases that would govern the call to provide ten firefighter positions in the official staff through the opposition system, as well as the configuration of a reserve list. The pandemic and its consequences, together with some irregularities and the usual resources of the applicants, have delayed the process to unsuspected margins at the time of preparing the calendar.
