Deaf people have a prior appointment service in Arona by using the Zoom app. The Modernization area will launch it this week, which facilitates the accessibility of this segment of the population to all the public services that the Consistory offers in the offices of the Citizen Service (SAC).
A decade ago, the Arona Town Hall “It was a pioneer” in the Canary Islands by implementing in the SAC offices the placement of telephone terminals with video calls with a Spanish sign language interpreter. Now, deaf people will be able to do it from their homes, without having to travel. To request an appointment, it is only necessary to enter the link https://citaprevia.arona.org/.
The improvement of public services is complemented by the rRecent opening of the SAC offices in the afternoonwhich seeks to improve access for residents and provide them with personalized attention beyond working hours.
Likewise, the Plenary approved a few months ago an institutional motion to support the rights of deaf people, especially access to information in emergency situations, since, in cases such as the eruption of La Palma, the absence of subtitles or interpreters in media, such as television, makes it difficult to know the facts and official advice.
In 2018, the Spanish Confederation of Deaf People-CNSE, the national organization of the associations of this group, awarded the Arona City Council for its work in integrating the group, both for making its public facilities accessible and for including sign language Spanish in their activities.
The mayor, José Julián Mena, emphasizes that “It is important that the City Council removes its own barriers and facilitate access to information and the completion of administrative procedures for this group. This implementation of prior appointment through Zoom is very important news for everyone.
