SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The 24-hour monitoring volcanic surveillance network of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) has located three earthquakes during the night and until 06.33 a.m. in the area affected by the volcanic eruption on the island of La Palma, in Cumbre Vieja, none of them sensed by the population.
The seismicity continues at very low levels at all depths and the tremor continues at background noise levels, although it does not rule out that earthquakes that can be felt may occur. The deformation process that began on December 19 has reversed.
In any case, the Pevolca Scientific Committee states that the data that can be observed both directly on the surface and from the surveillance systems continue to show signs of exhaustion of the eruptive process, which could be concluded in the next few hours if the trend continues. .
Even so, it is clarified that the end of the eruption does not imply the cessation of dangers associated with the volcanic phenomenon or the end of the magmatic reactivation in the Cumbre Vieja area.
The air quality, for its part, for the tenth consecutive day, does not exceed the limit values in any station; while the operation of the airport in the next few hours will be subject only to purely meteorological conditions due to the absence of volcanic ash in the troposphere.
