The Adejera Department of Education encourages citizens to participate in University Studies for Adults and Seniors, which will carry out, from January 2022, a series of virtual workshops related to astronomy, cinema and cinematographic language, photography and digital skills. Those interested should send an email to umayores@ull.edu.es. However, all the information on the courses is available on the municipal website www.adeje.es and on that of the University of La Laguna.
University Studies for Adults and Seniors, with different names, were established at the ULL in the 1999-2000 academic year. Since then they have had the support of the Adeje City Council, as well as the Cabildo de Tenerife, Imserso and the Government of the Canary Islands, among others. The councilor responsible for the education area, María Clavijo Maza, explains that this support is due to the fact that “the education of adults and the elderly constitutes a fundamental indicator of social, cultural and economic development for citizens, contributing to personal development.”
The objective of the online astronomy workshop is to deepen the knowledge of the universe, familiarizing the student with the scientific-technical nomenclature used in astronomy; generalize the culture of valuing starlight and discover the cultural heritage associated with the sky.
The virtual cinema and cinematographic language workshop will present the main historical milestones of the cinematographic medium from its origins to the present day. The photography program seeks for students to acquire basic digital skills in handling devices, to know the technical principles of photography, its elements and the value of images. As for the online workshop on digital skills, it is intended that the student acquires basic digital skills in the handling of devices, increases their level of confidence in the use of technology and that digital access barriers disappear.
