
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The 24-hour monitoring volcanic surveillance network of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) has located seven earthquakes overnight in the area affected by the volcanic reactivation on the island of La Palma, none of them felt by the population.
The seismicity continues under the central area of Cumbre Vieja, in the same areas of previous days. Most of the earthquakes are located at intermediate depths, between 10 and 15 km, and only one of them at depths greater than 20 km.
The maximum recorded magnitude was 2.9 (mbLg) corresponding to an earthquake located at 9:10 am, with a depth of 11 km. Yesterday 45 earthquakes were located, eleven of them with magnitudes greater than 3.0 (mbLg) and four directions.
The largest of the earthquakes, of magnitude 3.7 (mbLg), was located at 9:57 p.m. to the north of the municipality of Fuencaliente. With an epicenter at a depth of 13 km, it was felt with maximum intensity II-III EMS in Tazacorte, El Paso, Fuencaliente, Mazo and Los Llanos.
Also noteworthy is an earthquake located at 11:08 a.m. southwest of Villa de Mazo. With magnitude 3.6 (mbLg) and at a depth of 10 km, it was felt with a maximum intensity of VI on the European EMS scale in almost the entire island.
