The construction site of the new free public parking in the urbanization of Lercaro, in La Orotava, began this Tuesday with the fencing of the municipal plot of 5,700 square meters that will house space for parking 170 vehicles just 5 minutes walk from the historic center. This action, budgeted at 240,000 euros, has 80% funding from the La Orotava City Council and 20% from Tenerife Council, through the insular area of Socioeconomic Development.
The new parking lot will be divided into two areas at different heights to save the slope, with capacity for about 95 vehicles in the lower area and about 75 in the upper area. It is located next to the roundabout that gives access to Avenida de Graham Toler and next to the exit road to El Mayorazgo. Very close to IES Rafael Arozarena and the rear of the municipal cemetery.
The mayor of Urbanism of the La Orotava City Council, Narciso Pérez (CC), explained to EL DÍA that this action has an execution period of 4 months, therefore, if there are no delays, it should conclude at the end of March 2022. The new public car park will be accessed through the small roundabout that already exists in the area and will exit through the road that connects with the access to El Mayorazgo and La Playita. The local government hopes to facilitate with this project parking in this key area due to its proximity to the historic center of the Villa and to the Parish of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, the Town Hall, the cemetery or the nearby institute.

This action also fulfills a commitment acquired with the business and commercial sector of the municipality.
The island councilor also valued the interest of the Orotavense Council in taking the reins of this project to speed up the start of the work, “especially in these difficult times in which any action is necessary for the revitalization and reactivation of the economy.”
