SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The 24-hour monitoring volcanic surveillance network of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) has located 53 earthquakes overnight in the area affected by the volcanic reactivation on the island of La Palma, three of them felt by the population.
The seismicity continues under the central area of Cumbre Vieja, in the same areas of previous days. Most of the earthquakes are located at intermediate depths, between 10 and 15 kilometers, and only five of them at depths greater than 20 kilometers.
The maximum recorded magnitude was 3.5 (mbLg) corresponding to two earthquakes located at 06.56 and 07.00 hours, with depths of 31 and 11 km. Both were felt with a maximum intensity of III (EMS) in numerous nuclei of the island.
An earthquake that occurred at 07.04 hours, of magnitude 2.9 mbLg and at a depth of 13 km, was also felt. With a maximum intensity III-IV, it was felt in Breña Alta, Villa de Mazo, Los Llanos de Aridane, Breña Baja, Santa Cruz de La Palma and El Paso
Yesterday 75 earthquakes were located, 20 of them with magnitudes greater than 3.0 (mbLg). Only one, located at 6:09 p.m. at a depth of 13 km, was felt by the population with a maximum intensity of II-III on the European EMS scale.
