The Governing Council of the Cabildo de Tenerife has approved the project for island budgets for 2022, which amounts to 772,002,022 euros, while the consolidated budget, which includes the entire island public sector (public entities and companies), amounts to 863,583,327 euros.
The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, stressed that they have planned budgets “to confront with solvency the social and economic recovery and promote the Island with a focus on three issues: the protection of the most fragile people and groups, the strengthening of economic activity and job creation and the execution and completion of the works and infrastructures that are already being worked on this year “.
Pedro Martín indicated that, for the third consecutive year, the island government team “shows its commitment to the social and economic advancement of the Island, of all people and of all municipalities, with special attention to those who most require assistance. the assistance of the Cabildo “. He gave as an example the plan by which municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants will once again receive extraordinary contributions of funds to carry out public works and generate employment throughout the Island.
The president stressed the significant increase in the budget allocation for the social area, in order to strengthen the management system through the modernization of structures, innovation and the reinforcement of personnel: “The Insular Institute of Social Care and Sociosanitaria (IASS) is now 20 years old. In this time its budget has tripled but the engine that drives it, which is the personnel it manages, has not grown. Therefore, it is a priority to provide it with more and better resources so that we can offer better quality social services “. The increase in the items earmarked for the IASS next year will reach almost 9%.
Pedro Martín added that Tourism will also be reinforced with a growth of 4.5% in the items specifically destined to promotion “to continue leading air connectivity in the Canary Islands and to continue promoting agreements with first-line airlines, as we have been doing in these months, “he added.
Regarding infrastructures, the president highlighted the investment in the execution of the bulk of the works that are already underway to increase the flow of traffic on the TF-5, such as the burying of the La Esperanza highway and the execution of the elevated platform at the Padre Anchieta roundabout, in addition to the resurfacing work on TF-1 and TF-5, in which an amount close to 30 million euros is invested. The incorporation of new buses in 2022 will also improve the provision of the public transport service.
SCHOLARSHIPS INCREASE
Another area that will be strengthened next year is Education and Youth, whose budget will grow by 8.5%, highlighting the appropriations related to scholarships for university studies and special education scholarships. Likewise, the Presidency, Finance and Modernization area will have a 4.4% higher item that, specifically, will be used to consolidate the modernization process (+ 12%) undertaken by the Cabildo and which translates into a notable improvement of the public service provided to citizens, companies and institutions, in addition to being an important boost to the modernization of the island’s town halls, stressed Martín.
Investments in Natural Environment Management and Security are increased to improve the provision of services and the start-up of new projects, in addition to those planned for Sustainable Development and the Fight Against Climate Change, where the expenses related to the new waste management contract, new clean points throughout the island, the Office of Renewable Energies is strengthened and various actions are planned in terms of sustainability.
The president pointed out that after approval by the Governing Council, the budgets for 2022 will be submitted to the proposals of the different political groups of the Corporation, for which the government team “reaches out to attend to all those contributions that improve the text for the benefit of citizens and the advancement of the island, with an eye only on social, economic and employment recovery “. The island budgets are expected to be taken to the plenary session on December 22 for approval.
