SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Leal Theater of La Laguna hosts this Monday at 5:00 p.m. the opening ceremony of the fourth edition of CampusÁFRICA, which resumes its appointment with science and the exchange of knowledge, after a stoppage forced by the covid-19 pandemic, with a program entitled ‘Climate and pandemic challenges in a context of global crisis’, made up of two training modules focused on ecological transition and biosanitary challenges.
This international program, which will last until December 4, is organized by the University of La Laguna, through the Foundation for the Control of Tropical Diseases (FUNCCET), and the University Institute of Tropical Diseases and Public Health of the Canary Islands .
This year more than 40 presentations will be offered and, in the health block, there will be experts such as Santiago Mas-Coma, a member of the World Health Organization (WHO); Luis Enjuanes Sánchez, virologist at the National Center for Biotechnology (attached to the Higher Council for Scientific Research), who will present the vaccines developed in Spain, or Margarita del Val Latorre, virologist and researcher at the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), who will be the in charge of putting the finishing touch to this edition on December 2 at the Auditorium of the University of La Laguna.
For its part, the climate block will address issues such as the volcanic impact from the hand of Nemesio Pérez, coordinator of Involcan; María Luisa Tejedor Salguero, professor emerita at the ULL, or Araceli Raimundo Izard, bioclimatic architect.
The opening ceremony will feature the opening of the Minister of Ecological Transition of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Antonio Valbuena. In addition, the celebration of the ‘International Cooperation Day’ stands out, an event organized in collaboration with the Cabildo de Tenerife on Thursday 25 at 10.30 am in the Salón de Actos de Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, a moment of exchange and reflection that will serve to reinforce work and development synergies with the neighboring continent.
Among the objectives of this fourth edition, it stands out to promote the creation of a forum for specialized reflection on the challenges of the African continent within the framework of the current globalization process; facilitate the meeting between academics, entrepreneurs and professionals interested in development and strategic cooperation with Africa; offer advanced training applied to African sustainable development; stimulate scientific-technical and socio-cultural leadership among the young generations; promote the prominence of Macaronesia as a relevant geostrategic space within the framework of international scientific cooperation
