The Health Area of La Palma, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, is in charge of coordinating the distribution between the population affected and not affected by the volcanic eruption on the Island of new shipments of protection material that various organizations, entities, companies and individuals have sent to La Palma.

These donations are in addition to those made previously by other entities such as the Ministry of Health, the Canarian Health Service, the Official College of Nursing of Madrid, the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, the Pharmaceutical Cooperative of Tenerife and private laboratories, as well as companies. and private persons.
The director of the Health Area of La Palma, Kilian Sánchez, and the manager of the Health Services of La Palma, Mercedes Coello, reiterated their gratitude to the solidarity of all the entities and people involved in these donations, which show the closeness to all the palm tree population that is being affected by this eruptive process. They also recalled the importance of maintaining protective measures against the negative effects that the ash and gases from the volcano may have on the health of the population.
Faced with the eruptive process that is being experienced in La Palma, the General Directorate of Public Health of the Canary Health Service reminds the population of the need to take health protection measures against exposure to volcanic emanations and as long as this situation persists the stay of people in the open air should be limited to what is strictly essential.
People who must remain in an area exposed to ash during the volcano’s eruptive process must adopt individual protection measures: FFP2 mask, protective glasses and the skin fully covered with a long-sleeved shirt, pants and a cap.
Children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with lung or heart disease are those at the highest risk and those who must exercise extreme compliance with the measures to protect their health.
